Change in Fire Protection Rating
The following information was posted by Paul Sowers, Greenwater Fire Chief:
“To all of you who own homes in Greenwater or Crystal Mountain:
The WSRB (Washington Survey and Ratings Bureau) has re assessed both fire districts. As a result, Greenwater’s fire protection class has risen from an eight to a six, and Crystal Mountain’s rating has risen from a ten to a seven. This is a result of improved staffing, training, and equipment, as well as improvements in the water supply in the Crystal Villages. You might let your insurance company know this, and ask if it lowers your rate.
Thanks to the members of both departments, whose hard work and dedication are a big part of this result.”
One CV homeowner said that their homeowner’s coverage decreased by over $400. It may be worth checking with your insurance agent to see if your rates will change.

4th Quarter Board Meeting
The 4th quarter CVHA Board meeting will be held on Saturday, 12 November, at 9am. The meeting will be at the Rush home in CV1 (16608 Crystal Dr. E.)
The agenda includes review of the 2017 budget, Water Manager’s report, Treasurer’s report, and organization of the 01 December newsletter / invoices.

PSE power switching
PSE has issued the following notice to our community:
In an ongoing effort to deliver safe and reliable energy to you and your neighbors, Puget Sound Energy will install a new switch at the Clay Creek substation.
In order to do this work safely, it’s necessary to take the line out-of-service for approximately 36 hours. To avoid your power going out, we will transfer your electric service to the generator at Crystal Mountain so the work should be invisible to you. There may be a momentary outage as your power is switched from the line to the generator at around 7 a.m. Wednesday, October 19.
There is a remote chance your power could go out for a longer period due to the configuration of the generator. While we don’t anticipate this, we do want you to know of the possibility and be aware of the outage date and time.
Outage details (customer power will be provided by generator)
Outage area: Greenwater to Crystal Mountain
Date: Wednesday and Thursday, October 19 and 20
Estimated outage duration: Approx. 36 hours
To occur between: 7 a.m. October 19 and 7 p.m. on October 20

Hancock Suspends Spraying Plan
9/13/2016 Update
Randy Roeh from Hancock Forest Management provided some additional details about the proposed spraying. Due to concerns raised by Crystal Village homeowners, Hancock has reconsidered plans to use herbicides on Gold Hill West G and Gold Hill West A units. See Randy’s letter below for more details.
Pierce County Sheriff Patrols
There have been a number of inquiries regarding the number of Pierce County Sheriffs seen around CV in the last week. I was able to speak with a PCS officer in CV1 today.
He said that they are stepping up patrols in the Greenwater area due to an increased number of transients seen in the vicinity of the FS 70 road. With the transients come drug activity and with drug activity comes petty theft and other criminal activity.
We are asked to report any suspicious activity, missing items (small tools, camping equipment, etc.) or illegal shooting. You can make a non-emergency online report rather than contacting the PCS directly. This online reporting might not be responded to by an officer, but all reports are reviewed by a sergeant and tracked to indicate increases in crime in a community and trigger increased PCS attention.

Burn Ban
Crystal Village is under DNR fire protection and DNR just issued a statewide burn ban.
Outdoor burning, including campfires in fire pits and the use of charcoal briquettes, is banned on forestland under DNR fire protection as of noon, Wednesday, August 17 2016.
Outdoor gas grills are allowed.
